Temporary Residency for Pensioners

Answer

The general rule applies to you

No exception is recorded for citizens of Guyana on this topic. That is the answer, not a gap - everything below is the rule you get, unchanged.

81 exceptions recorded across 33 countries · none match Guyana to Argentina · Residency as a retiree

Argentina asks retirees for the same five minimum wages as its passive-income route, but the proof is narrower and easier: a certificate that you receive a pension or retirement payment regularly and permanently. Unlike the rentista route it does not have to come from assets you own, and unlike Colombia's it can come from a private company as well as a state or an international body.

In detail

Why a retiree should read this rather than the rentista page

The threshold is identical, so the two routes look interchangeable, and guides often treat them as one. They are not. The passive-income route requires the money to come from assets in your own estate, originating abroad, and to enter Argentina through a bank authorised by the central bank. The pensioner route requires none of that: a certificate that the payment is regular and permanent is the whole financial test. If you have a pension, this is the simpler door, and using the other one imports conditions you do not have to meet.

Against Colombia's equivalent

Colombia asks for three monthly minimum wages rather than five, which is the lower bar in multiples, though the two minimum wages are different amounts. Colombia also requires a medical certificate of fitness and proof of health cover as part of the application, and accepts only a state or a private pension fund as the payer. Argentina accepts a private company and asks for neither. Argentina's route runs one year at a time; Colombia's counts five years towards permanent residency.

Country-level policy

Decree 366/2025 - Physical Presence & Healthcare Access Reform

A decree of necessity and urgency published on 29 May 2025 that rewrote parts of four laws at once - the Migration Law 25.871, the Citizenship Law 346, the Higher Education Law 24.521 and the National Education Law 26.206. It is modelled here as a country-level policy rather than inside any one topic because a single instrument changed entry conditions, healthcare access, university fees, permanent-residency requirements and the grounds for cancelling a residence permit simultaneously. If you hold or are applying for any Argentine residence permit, this is the instrument most likely to affect you.

What applies to you

Nothing changes for a citizen of Guyana

We have no rule recorded that treats your citizenship differently here, so the general rule above is the one that applies to you. That is an answer, not a gap.

What the law says

Our translation - not official

A certificate issued by a government, an international organisation or a private company certifying receipt of a pension or retirement payment on a regular and permanent basis, in an amount equal to or greater than the sum of FIVE (5) Minimum Vital and Mobile Salaries.

Three things are wider here than on the rentista route: the payer may be a private company, the money need not come from assets in your own estate, and there is no requirement that it arrive through the Argentine banking system.

Argentina's migration directorate. It runs RaDEX, the online residency system, decides applications, and publishes the requirements for each residency category along with the fee schedule.

They cite the underlying instruments - Ley 25.871, Decreto 616/2010, the relevant DNM Disposición - but paraphrase their content, and the agency can change what it asks for without any statute moving. Where the requirement matters, the instrument itself is the better source.

Practical notes

The threshold is a multiple of the minimum wage rather than a fixed sum, so it moves whenever the wage is revised - take the current figure from the Consejo del Salario rather than from any quoted total.

The same cross-cutting conditions apply as to every Argentine permit: health insurance and a sworn declaration at entry, no free ordinary public healthcare as a temporary resident, and a continuous absence of six months as a ground for cancellation.
