Driving in Nicaragua
Answer
The general rule applies to you
No exception is recorded for citizens of Honduras on this topic. That is the answer, not a gap - everything below is the rule you get, unchanged.
81 exceptions recorded across 33 countries · none match Honduras to Nicaragua · Driving and licence exchange
A foreign licence is good for as long as it is valid - the traffic law says a person carrying a licence from another country may drive for the period it was issued for, and must get a Nicaraguan one once it expires. There is no ninety-day visitor window and no residence trigger: the test is the expiry date printed on the licence you already hold. A Nicaraguan licence is issued by the traffic police after a theory and a practical test and runs for five years, with an eye test from the Nicaraguan Red Cross on renewal. A provisional permit of ninety days exists for sixty córdobas. A foreign-plated vehicle may circulate for whatever period the customs service allows, and its insurance policy runs thirty days rather than a year, renewable for the length of the stay.

In detail
The expiry date, not the calendar
Most countries let a visitor drive on a foreign licence for a fixed window - ninety days, six months, until residence - and Nicaragua does not. Article 144 of the traffic law says a person carrying a licence from another country may drive for the period it was issued for, and must get a Nicaraguan licence once it expires. That is the whole rule. A resident whose home licence has eight years to run may drive on it for eight years; a visitor whose licence expires next month may not drive after that. Nothing in the article asks for an international driving permit, a translation or a certified copy.
The Nicaraguan licence
A Nicaraguan licence is issued by the traffic police after a theory and a practical test, runs for five years, and is renewed on an eye test carried out by the Nicaraguan Red Cross or, where the Red Cross cannot, by a centre the health ministry authorises. A ninety-day provisional permit exists and costs sixty córdobas, which is one of the only amounts in the law printed as words rather than as a picture. The categories, the types and the procedure are left to the regulation, which we have not read.
The car, if you bring one
A foreign-plated vehicle circulates for whatever period the customs service grants, and the traffic law does not set one. Its compulsory insurance is the exception to the usual annual policy: thirty days for a vehicle entering temporarily, and if it stays longer the owner must buy a new policy for a period equal to the stay, producing the customs authorisation to the insurer. Such a vehicle may not be used to carry passengers or freight for hire.
Country-level policy
Nicaraguan statutes set their fees in tables, and the National Assembly's legal-information service publishes those tables as images rather than as text. In the migration law the schedules for articles 121, 122, 122 bis and 123 are each a line of prose followed by a picture; the traffic law does the same for its licence fees, its eye-test charges and its workshop penalties. The amounts are in the instrument and are not in anything a reader or a machine can quote from it. The practical consequence is that the only published money figures for migration and driving come from the migration directorate's own price lists, in córdobas, which are a statement of what the counter charges rather than of what the law sets.
Since the Digesto Jurídico laws of 2017 onwards, Nicaragua republishes its statutes as consolidated texts, subject by subject, each approved on a date and published in La Gaceta later. The consolidation date is a hard edge: everything enacted after it is simply not in the text, and the page gives no sign of what has happened since. The migration law's consolidated text was closed on 28 February 2023 and published on 18 January 2024, which is why it still defines the pensioner category by reference to a law repealed in August 2024. The same service carries superseded consolidations alongside current ones - the Constitution has a March 2024 consolidation and a February 2025 integral text at different addresses, with different article numbers for nationality.
What applies to you
Nothing changes for a citizen of Honduras
We have no rule recorded that treats your citizenship differently here, so the general rule above is the one that applies to you. That is an answer, not a gap.
What the law says
«Las personas que porten licencia de conducir de otros países, podrán conducir durante el período para la que fue emitida. Si esta licencia se le vence, deberá tramitar la licencia nacional para poder conducir.»Our translation - not official
Persons carrying a driving licence from another country may drive for the period for which it was issued. If that licence expires, they must obtain the national licence in order to drive.
The whole of the rule. There is no visitor window, no residence trigger and no requirement for an international permit or a translation.

Standing: Maintains the text in force
Cannot be cited for: A consolidated text's cut-off date is a hard edge and the page carries no warning that anything has happened since: the migration law's text was closed on 28 February 2023 and still defines a residence category by reference to a statute repealed in August 2024. It must never be cited as evidence that a statute is in force - it serves a repealed law in full with the repeal as a single line at the foot, which is why that route is still sold everywhere. It must not be cited for any amount set in a table, because those are published as images. And where one instrument has two addresses, as the Constitution does, the superseded consolidation stays live with different article numbers.

The driving licence is a public document, personal and non-transferable, issued by the Traffic Safety Branch of the National Police, by which the holder is authorised to drive the vehicles this Law refers to, according to type and category. It is valid throughout the national territory for a period of five years.

The driving licence is issued by the Traffic Safety Branch of the National Police to any citizen who has passed the theory and practical tests showing that they know how to drive and who has met the requirements of law, according to the type and category applied for.
This sentence appears twice in the consolidated text, as article 141 and again as article 145, word for word. We record it as published rather than choosing one.

One of the few money figures anywhere in the Nicaraguan instruments we read that is printed as text rather than as an image. The rest of this law's fee tables are published as pictures.

Practical notes
The claim that there is no fixed visitor window rests on article 144 of the consolidated traffic law, which is the only article in it dealing with foreign licences. We searched the stored text for extranjer and licencia de conducir; nothing else bears on the question.
The categories of licence and the documents required to obtain one are left by article 141 to the regulation of the traffic law, which we have not read. The requirements listed here are those the statute states.
The fee schedules of this law, including the cost of the eye test, are published in the National Assembly's consolidated text as images rather than as text, so no amount is quoted from them. The sixty córdobas for the provisional permit is in the body of article 147.
The same sentence on issuing a licence appears twice in the consolidated text, as articles 141 and 145. We have not established whether that is a consolidation artefact or the law as published.
