Temporary Residency for Students

Answer

The general rule applies to you

No exception is recorded for citizens of Uruguay on this topic. That is the answer, not a gap - everything below is the rule you get, unchanged.

81 exceptions recorded across 33 countries · none match Uruguay to Argentina · Residency as a student

Enrolment as a regular student at a recognised institution is the core of it, and the category is wider than a degree course: interns on an international agreement between an educational body abroad and one in Argentina, or a company or state body here, are covered by the same route.

What the law says

Text layer - verbatim verifiedDNM - student temporary residency · Full course students
«Quien se encuentre inscripto como alumno regular en un establecimiento educativo público o privado perteneciente al sistema de enseñanza oficial, a fin de cursar estudios oficialmente reconocidos de nivel secundario, terciario, universitario o de postgrado.»

Our translation - not official

A person enrolled as a regular student at a public or private educational establishment belonging to the official education system, in order to study officially recognised courses at secondary, tertiary, university or postgraduate level.

'Officially recognised' and 'within the official education system' are both doing work: a language school or a private course outside that system does not satisfy this.

About this source

Argentina's migration directorate. It runs RaDEX, the online residency system, decides applications, and publishes the requirements for each residency category along with the fee schedule.

Standing: Applies the rule

Cannot be cited for: Its service pages are the agency's own summary of the law it applies, not the law. They cite the underlying instruments - Ley 25.871, Decreto 616/2010, the relevant DNM Disposición - but paraphrase their content, and the agency can change what it asks for without any statute moving. Where the requirement matters, the instrument itself is the better source.

Practical notes

Decree 366/2025 limited free undergraduate study at state institutions to citizens and permanent residents, so a student on this permit is not within the free-tuition group - the residency route and the fees question are separate and both apply.
