Visitor Visa (V) for Students

Answer

The general rule applies to you

No exception is recorded for citizens of Peru on this topic. That is the answer, not a gap - everything below is the rule you get, unchanged.

81 exceptions recorded across 33 countries · none match Peru to Colombia · Residency as a student

The category is wide - it covers trades and arts, school at every level, vocational training and higher education, and it explicitly includes online and distance study. And there is a carve-out worth knowing before applying for anything: holders of passports from visa-exempt countries need no student visa at all if the stay stays under 180 days.

What the law says

Text layer - verbatim verifiedResolución 5477 de 2022, art. 36 · Art. 36, Visa V Estudiante, alcance
«Los portadores de pasaporte de países o territorios exentos de visa, determinados mediante Resolución, estarán exentos del trámite de este tipo de visa siempre que su permanencia en Colombia no exceda 180 días calendario.»

Our translation - not official

Holders of passports from visa-exempt countries or territories, determined by Resolution, will be exempt from applying for this type of visa provided their stay in Colombia does not exceed 180 calendar days.

A short course, a semester abroad or a language programme may need no visa at all. Which nationalities are exempt is set by a separate resolution we have not read.

Colombia's foreign ministry, which sets the visa regime by resolution. Resolución 5477 de 2022 is the instrument itself, not a summary of one: it defines every visa category, its requirements and its validity in numbered articles.

Cannot be cited for: Resolutions are amended by further resolutions rather than reissued, so the consolidated version carries notes about articles added or repealed by later instruments - article 80 of 5477, for example, was repealed by Resolución 10434 de 2023. Reading a category without checking those notes can mean reading a rule that no longer applies.

Compare Argentina, which requires enrolment within the official education system for officially recognised courses - a narrower test that excludes a private language school.
