Descent Is a Declaration, Not a Permit, and It Repairs Specific Historical Losses
Answer
The general rule applies to you
No exception is recorded for citizens of Belize on this topic. That is the answer, not a gap - everything below is the rule you get, unchanged.
98 exceptions recorded across 37 countries · none match Belize to Germany · Residency through ancestry
Germany's ancestry route is not a residence permit: it is a declaration that makes the declarant German. Section 5 lets people born after the Basic Law came into force acquire German citizenship by declaring they want it, in four situations - a child of a German parent who did not acquire citizenship at birth; a child of a mother who lost German citizenship before the birth by marrying a foreigner; a child who lost citizenship acquired at birth through legitimation by a foreigner; and the descendants of those children. The right is barred by a conviction of two years or more and by the exclusion grounds of section 11.
At a glance
- What it gives
- German citizenship by declaration, not a residence permit
- How far it reaches
- To the descendants of the children in the first three cases

- Children of a German parent who were not German at birth
- Covered
- Children of a mother who lost citizenship by marrying a foreigner
- Covered
- Bar
- A conviction to two years or more, or an exclusion ground under section 11
The numbers are the years of the sentence and the section of the Act, both in the quotation below.
Requirements
- Birth after the Basic Law came into force

- Legal capacity or legal representation
- No conviction to two years or more and no exclusion ground under section 11
What applies to you
Nothing changes for a citizen of Belize
We have no rule recorded that treats your citizenship differently here, so the general rule above is the one that applies to you. That is an answer, not a gap.
What the law says
The declaration route and the four classes it reaches, including descendants. It repairs losses that German law itself caused rather than rewarding ancestry in general.

Germany's consolidated federal statute book, served as plain HTML with the whole Act on one page at a stable address built from its Bundesgesetzblatt number. Each Act carries a footer stating the amendment it is current to.
Standing: Maintains the text in force
Cannot be cited for: The portal states that the texts are not official and that the Bundesgesetzblatt governs. It is served as ISO-8859-1 with the charset in a meta tag, so a fetch assuming UTF-8 destroys every umlaut. The English translations published alongside are explicitly non-binding and are never quoted here.

Practical notes
This section is about German law's own historical defects - citizenship denied through the mother, or lost by marriage or legitimation. It is not a general grandparent route.
A separate restitution route exists for people persecuted on political, racial or religious grounds and their descendants. It is in the same Act and was not located in the exported text, so nothing is said about it here.
