A Spouse Needs German Before Arriving, and the Sponsor Needs the Right Permit

Answer

The general rule applies to you

No exception is recorded for citizens of Mexico on this topic. That is the answer, not a gap - everything below is the rule you get, unchanged.

98 exceptions recorded across 37 countries · none match Mexico to Germany · Residency through marriage

Germany's spouse route has three conditions on its face and the second is unusual: both spouses must be eighteen, the spouse joining must be able to communicate in German at least in a simple way, and the sponsor must hold one of the listed titles - a settlement permit, a long-term EU residence permit, certain research and protection permits, or a residence permit held for two years that is not barred from leading to settlement. The language requirement sits before the move rather than after it, which is what distinguishes this from most of the family provisions recorded in this corpus.

About this source

Germany's consolidated federal statute book, served as plain HTML with the whole Act on one page at a stable address built from its Bundesgesetzblatt number. Each Act carries a footer stating the amendment it is current to.

Standing: Maintains the text in force

Cannot be cited for: The portal states that the texts are not official and that the Bundesgesetzblatt governs. It is served as ISO-8859-1 with the charset in a meta tag, so a fetch assuming UTF-8 destroys every umlaut. The English translations published alongside are explicitly non-binding and are never quoted here.

Practical notes

Exceptions to the language requirement exist in the paragraphs that follow and are not read here.

A spouse of a German national is under a different provision of the same Act, not this one.
