Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency

Applies the rule

The agency that admits travellers, extends stays, grants permanent residence and unconditional landing, and processes citizenship applications. It publishes the only complete country-by-country visa table Jamaica issues, its immigration and citizenship fee tables, and the requirement lists applicants actually work from.

The body that applies the rule and decides applications. It publishes what it requires, which is authoritative about its own practice but is not the text of the law.

Cannot be cited for

It must not be cited for what the law requires. Its published maximum of six months for a non-Commonwealth visitor has no counterpart in the Aliens Act, where the twelve-month Commonwealth figure is in the statute twice. Permanent residence and unconditional landing are its own constructs: neither immigration Act names either status, and the agency does not say what it grants them under. Its pages contradict each other - citizenship by descent is twenty-five working days in the procedure text and ninety in the fee table on the same page - and its categories page omits registration of Commonwealth nationals and naturalisation, both of which appear on its own fee table. Many of its internal links are broken, pointing at https:/.jm/ paths. Its /immigration page serves the fee table rather than an immigration overview.
